Building on the success of the "Art + Craft" exhibition held at the Matsuya Ginza store last year, this group exhibition brings together contemporary artists and craft creators who gather in the Ariake Sea region. They share the same space and explore connections between the present and the future. Additionally, the exhibition includes displays by young artists as part of the Kyushu Art City Project 2023, as well as exhibitions by Picfa and Yuki no Tsubasa. Simultaneously, the ONE Ariake Poster Exhibition is also being held.

EDAUME was founded in Meiji 40 (1907) and is a renovated facility located along the old Nagasaki Highway in Saga Castle Town. It is the only remaining brewery of the former Edaume Sake Brewery. This location has been transformed into a gallery and artist-in-residence space. Professors Kenji Yanagi and Ken Inokawa of Saga University play central roles in organizing exhibitions at EDAUME.

This is the 47th time for this open call exhibition, which aims to promote and popularize local art and to discover and nurture the outstanding talents of new and young artists. The exhibition provides an opportunity for young artists to showcase their powerful works, fresh sensibility and talent.

This lantern artwork of bird-and-animal caricatures is created by lantern artist Maki Mikami, who revived Goshogawara's 22-meter-tall "standing nebuta" that still attracts 1.2 million tourists annually after an 80-year absence. 　　Sixteen animals from the Birds and Beasts Caricature gather in a space work of ethereal beauty under the theme of Ureshi-no-Tea. The artwork is full of highlights, such as the skillful deformation of the characters, their human expressions, and the attention to detail.

At Homen Shrine in Miyama City, Fukuoka Prefecture, a festival is held every year on the third Saturday of October. During this festival, dedicated Noh theater performances (known as Shinkai Noh) take place. Shinkai Noh is distinct in that it is performed not by professional Noh actors but by the people from the Kitashinkai and Minamishinkai districts of Takata Town. It has been designated as an intangible folk cultural asset of Fukuoka Prefecture. Over 60 local parishioners, including elementary school students dressed in splendid costumes, perform solemn Noh and Kyogen acts such as "Hagoromo" and "Arashiyama" on a dedicated stage within the shrine grounds, accompanied by drums and flutes.

"Ariichi" is the nickname for a cycling route that circumnavigates the Ariake Sea coastline, spanning four prefectures in Kyushu. This cycling course allows you to savor the ever-changing tidal flats of the Ariake Sea, known for its significant tidal variations. Along the route, you'll make stops at various tourist spots, including the nationally designated important cultural property, the Chikugo River Shokai Bridge, picturesque rural landscapes in Saga Prefecture's reclaimed lands, the breathtaking views of the majestic Unzen, certified as a Global Geopark, and the popular "Fruit Bus Stop" that's gained recognition on social media.

In recent years, stand-up paddleboarding (SUP) has seen a rapid increase in both popularity and recognition, becoming a new staple in watersports. It's a novel activity where you stand on a board and paddle your way across the water's surface. The concept revolves around using sports as a means to foster a connection with the natural environment of the Ariake Sea region, providing opportunities for families (parents and children) to learn about the local ecology, and raising awareness of the region's charm through food and accommodation experiences.

The Ariake Sea is a wetland area, and particularly, the three districts of Arao, Saga, and Kashima are recognized as important wetlands under the international environmental treaty known as the Ramsar Convention. By protecting and nurturing the coastal areas that represent the Ramsar Convention registered wetlands, which symbolize the biodiversity of the Ariake Sea, it is hoped that this effort will raise environmental awareness throughout the entire Ariake Sea region and activate various conservation activities. To achieve this goal, a coastal cleanup event is organized, and it encourages the participation of local residents, tourists, and individuals with an interest in environmental protection.

Situated in a naturally abundant location with the Ariake Sea stretching out in front and a view of Mount Taro in the background, you can savor the original dish "Kanimabushi" made with bamboo crab raised in the Ariake Sea at "Hoyo-so" (located at 1099-5 Oura-hei, Taro-cho, Fujitsu-gun, Saga Prefecture). Responding to customer feedback such as "crab dishes are expensive" or "peeling the shells is cumbersome," "Kanimabushi" was born. It's a unique dish exclusive to Hoyo-so and hasn't been seen in previous bamboo crab cuisine offerings.

This is the residence of the Daimyo Tachibana family, who governed the Yushima Domain with 110,000 koku of land during the Edo period. The entire estate, covering approximately 7,000 tsubo (about 23,100 square meters), has been designated as a National Place of Scenic Beauty, known as the "Tachibana-shi Garden." The estate includes the Count's Mansion built by Count Kanji, the 14th head of the Tachibana family, in 1910, and the "Shoto-en" garden, which has been preserved in its original state for over a century. The secret to the deliciousness of their "Gohana no Seiro-mushi" lies in the special sauce made with eel bone broth and the careful grilling of the eel, preserving its authentic flavor.

The "Sugar Road" is also known as the Nagasaki Kaido. During the Edo period, Nagasaki conducted trade with the Netherlands through Dejima and with China through the Chinatown. The large quantities of sugar brought to Nagasaki were transported by ships to Osaka and distributed throughout the country. The "Nagasaki Kaido," which connected Nagasaki, passed through Saga and continued to Kokura, flourished as a road where various people and goods traveled. The term "Sugar Road" comes from the historical context of this trade route. Along the Sugar Road, you can visit the Murayama Sohonten Yokan (red bean jelly) Museum in Ogi City, where you can learn about the history of the Sugar Road and also enjoy Ogi Yokan, a famous local confection.

The tea room "Seiei-an" is located at the castle ruins in Saga City. It was donated by Mrs. Sachie Ikue as the posthumous wish of the late Mr. Sei Ichimura, a businessman from Saga and the founder of the Ricoh San-ai Group. This tea room was designed and constructed by Horikuchi Suko, a pioneer in the field of tea room architecture, and his leading disciple, Masao Hayakawa. It is a rare and valuable architectural asset open to the public, and Seiei-an is the only tea room accessible to anyone. "Tocha" is a traditional Japanese tea-guessing game where participants try to identify the type and origin of a concealed tea without revealing its name. It's also known as "Chakabuki." It was introduced to Japan from China during the late Kamakura period and gained popularity among the samurai, nobility, and monks from the Nanboku-cho period to the middle of the Muromachi period. The game involved making bets and connections. However, due to the government's prohibition, even the "voting box" that allowed for a clear determination of the outcome of the tea guessing game disappeared from history.
